Here at Cavan Sports Clinic, we use an evidence-based approach to help you overcome your injury and provide you with the tools to prevent injury recurrence. How it works

  1. Contact us to request an appointment
  2. We will set up a video meeting and send you a link via email
  3. We get your history and carry out a movement assessment
  4. We provide a diagnosis and plan of care
  5. We send a copy of your exercises and give an exercise prescription via email after the session
  6. You get the work completed!

Physio Led Personal Training

We offer 1-1 and small group personal training for anyone looking to improve their health, get stronger, lose weight or achieve a new fitness goal. We pride ourselves on our expertise in the areas of exercise physiology and physiotherapy and assess everyone prior to starting personal training to ensure we identify all their strengths and weaknesses, set appropriate goals, and provide gold standard service for our clients.  Check out our recent blog on some of the health benefits of resistance training.

Strength & Conditioning

Strength and conditioning is sports-specific training aimed at maximising athletic performance in your given sport. A good strength and conditioning program should address both the individual needs of the athlete and the requirements for the sport. Everyone starting a strength and conditioning program in Cavan Sports Clinic is assessed by a physio to determine their strengths, weaknesses, imbalances, and injury profile so these issues can be addressed as part of the program to minimise their injury risk. The program is then focused on the needs of the sport to ensure that we are working on the correct energy systems and the correct movement patterns and setting appropriate training and performance goals.

Regardless of your sport, age and gender strength & conditioning is a huge part of performance outcome in almost every sport. We offer 1-1, small group, and squad S&C in Cavan Sports Clinic.

Physio Led Juvenile Athletic Development

Athletic development concerns the development of an individual’s physical literacy, movement skills, coordination, and foundational strength and speed.   The more competent we become with the fundamentals of athleticism at a young age, the better we are prepared to be physically competent adult, whether we choose to use that in pursuit of athletic endeavours, or indeed just to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Think of it like primary schools for movement and strength, we learn a wide range of skills and competencies but we don’t specialise in any one subject or sport, but this provides us with the armour to narrow our field in the next stages (secondary school) before specialising when we get a little older (college).

Athletic development is open to and important for all children, not just aspiring athletes, and has many benefits.

  • Improve physical fitness and health
  • Improve coordination
  • Improve confidence
  • Improve Strength
  • Reduce Injuries
  • Improve Sports Performance

Our athletic development groups are supervised by chartered physiotherapists and safety is of paramount importance.  If you want some more information have a read of our article on Juvenile Athletic Development or contact us with any questions

Coaching Programmes

An individually tailored and monitored coaching program is the best way to achieve your fitness goal. With our experience and expertise in exercise physiology and physiotherapy, we ensure your program is tailored to your needs and abilities and helps you to avoid training-related injuries.

Our plans are tailored individually to suit your lifestyle and ambitions and monitored using heart rate and/or power meter data to ensure you get the correct balance between work and recovery.  This ensures that fitness progresses appropriately without having issues with overuse injuries.

Our plans are suitable for triathletes, cyclists, and runners of all levels and abilities so whether you aspire to race your next ironman or complete your first 5k and need a guide, we can help.

Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is physio-led and focuses on improving posture, flexibility, balance, and coordination and building strength and endurance in the entire body. Clinical Pilates is often used in conjunction with physiotherapy to help treat and manage injuries, particularly to the neck and low back, but it can also be really beneficial for anybody who wants to improve their general physical health and wellbeing. Clinical Pilates does not follow a set routine like some other Pilates classes but exercises are selected and modified based on the needs of the individual or group.  We offer this service on a 1-1 or small group basis to ensure adequate coaching so if you are interested get in touch.

Dry Needling

This is therapeutic treatment where a thin filament needle is inserted into a taut muscle that may contain a trigger point. Trigger points are tight tender knots which can cause pain, weakness and musculoskeletal imbalances. The needle may be advanced a number of times in the one area.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is beneficial in reducing stiffness and soreness and helping improve recovery. While it shouldn’t be seen as a solution to injury problems, it can aid the recovery process by helping to improve mobility and reduce soreness.  Sports massage is also beneficial for recovery between hard blocks of training or during the taper period before a race.
